The Aveiro wind farm represents Virya Energy’s (ex-Eurowatt) entry into the Portuguese onshore wind market with 18 MW of installed capacity. Acquired by Eurowatt in the early 2000s, this installation demonstrated the company’s strategic vision to diversify its European renewable energy portfolio beyond its core French market. Located in Portugal’s Centro region, the site benefits from Atlantic wind patterns that sweep across the coastal plains, providing consistent energy generation throughout the year. The Aveiro project laid the groundwork for Eurowatt’s Iberian expansion strategy, establishing operational expertise in Portuguese regulatory frameworks and grid systems. This wind farm continues to contribute to Portugal’s impressive renewable energy mix, which regularly exceeds 70% of the country’s electricity demand.
